Trashing our Troops - by Gary Bauer - cwfpac.comSubmitted by kdalons on Thu, 01/17/2008 - 18:38.
The Left just can’t control itself when it comes to crucifying the men and women of the U.S. military. The latest example comes from the New York Times, which has never seen an anti-military story it didn’t like. Since there have been no recent allegations of “atrocities” by the U.S. military in Iraq or Afghanistan, the Times has changed venues: It is now portraying our soldiers as murderers here at home! The story began on the front page of Sunday’s edition and continued for more than two pages inside. The theme was an old one for the Left – that the horror of war turns U.S. soldiers into maniacal killers who murder when they return to the U.S. The Times breathlessly informed its readers that since the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq began, vets returning home have been convicted or charged with committing 121 murders! Anyone reading this story could be forgiven if they ran the next time they saw a U.S. soldier. There was one little oversight; however. The “intellectuals” at the Times failed to do what even a high school student must do when writing a term paper – put the statistics into context. One hundred twenty-one murders sounds dramatic, but it isn’t in reality. Fortunately, columnist and decorated veteran Ralph Peters compared the number of returning vets and the 121 murders to the number of Americans aged 18 to 34 here at home and their murder rate. His conclusion: Our vets are five times LESS LIKELY to commit murder than their civilian peers. Gary Bauer - www.cwfpac.com
