The Woodbury County (Iowa) Caucus was held Thursday, Jan 3, 2008 in and was a highly attended! While the total attendance is still coming in, I do know we had in excess of 3,000 people in attendance which I believe set a new record! We had a large number (at least 750!) of new registrations from formerly registered Independents and Democrats - welcome aboard to all our new Republicans!

I want to extend a huge Thank-you to all of the volunteers that helped make this caucus a success - specifically I want to mention the names of a few that made it happen:

  • Linda Holub - lead the North Middle School location, along with Tom Kleen and Suzan Stewart
  • Jacob Bossman - led the East High School location, along with Jon Saylor
  • David Widman and Nicole Cleveland - led the Sergeant Bluff caucuses
  • many, many others across the county who ensured their caucuses were a success

While I haven't seen the final results for the entire county yet (we should get that information later on Friday), it appears that Romney won the county, but Huckabee clearly won the state. Congratulations to both.

Finally, I do want to apologize to those that were unable to participate at the North Middle School location due to a lack of parking. I take full responsibility - we simply did not accurately predict the number of voters who would participate in caucus. Thank you for your willingness to participate - we will work even harder next time to ensure we have adequate facilities to accomodate even larger crowds at future events.
